It is hardly surprising that England's capital city, home of the Royal family, is crammed full of spectacular landmarks and monuments.
Famous throughout the world, many of these date back several hundreds of years and are in remarkable condition. Here are some of the top landmarks to visit.

Buckingham Palace is over 300 years old and is the official London residence of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, serving as both home and office. It is open to the public from mid-August until the end of September.

St. Paul's Cathedral is one of the world's most famous cathedrals. It was designed by Sir Christopher Wren and built between 1675 and 1708 to replace the previous cathedral destroyed in the Great Fire of London in 1666. The huge and elegant dome dominates the skyline of the City and gives stunning views over London.
London Landmarks: Houses of Parliament - Westminster, London, SW1A OAA
The Palace of Westminster is better known as the Houses of Parliament and is one of London's best known monuments and also one of the city's finest Victorian buildings. It is best viewed from the south side of the river, where it has been painted by many renowned artists, including Monet and Turner.

This enormous clock stands high above the Houses of Parliament and is named after the thirteen-ton main bell that strikes every hour.

Westminster Abbey is one of Europe's finest Gothic buildings and the scene of many coronations, marriages and burials of British monarchs. It dates back to the 11th century.
London Landmarks: Trafalgar Square and Nelson's Column - Trafalgar Square, London, WC2N 4JJ
One of London's grandest architectural set pieces, Trafalgar Square was designed in 1820 by John Nash. As one of the few large public squares in the city, it has been a popular tourist attraction and the main focus of political demonstrations for over a century.
London Landmarks: Piccadilly Circus - London, England
Piccadilly got its name from the ruffs or 'pickadills' worn by the dandies who used to promenade here in the late 17th century. Always busy with traffic, it is most famous for its massive illuminated, animated billboards.
London Landmarks: 10 Downing Street - Downing Street, London
One of London's most famous addresses is No. 10 Downing Street, the terraced house that has been the residence of the Prime Minister since is was presented to Sir Robert Walpole, Britain's first Prime Minister, by George II in 1732.
London Landmarks: Millennium Dome - Bugsby Way, Greenwich, London, SE10 0GD
London's Millennium Dome cost around £750 million to build and was the centrepiece of the UK's millennium celebrations. It was built in Greenwich as this is where the concept of a central time was invented - Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
